ChiroStrength Cupping / IASTM in Nashville, TN

Cupping uses suction instead of pressure to work on soft tissue. Silicone or glass cups are placed on the skin and pull the tissue up, which is the opposite of what happens with massage or manual therapy. This pulls blood flow to the area and helps loosen up tight muscle and fascia.

Most people have had cupping done while lying still on a table. Dr. Dunaway does it differently. Just like with ART, he moves the joint or muscle through its range of motion while the cup is still on. This creates motion between the layers of soft tissue, not just suction, which static cupping doesn’t give you.

IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization) is often used alongside cupping at ChiroStrength. Instead of suction, specialized tools are used to detect and treat areas of restriction, adhesion, or scar tissue, giving Dr. Dunaway another way to target soft tissue problems depending on what your body needs that day.

Cupping and IASTM are commonly used to help with:

  • Muscle tightness and tension

  • Restricted range of motion

  • Chronic tightness in the neck, back, and shoulders

  • Recovery from intense training or repetitive strain

  • Scar tissue and fascial restrictions

Both treatments are generally well tolerated and low risk. They’re typically used along with your adjustment during a regular visit with Dr. Dunaway.
